Anderson Silva channeling his inner Ip Man

Ip Man was the Wing Chun master that trained Bruce Lee.  Bruce Lee is the father of MMA as Dana White has stated over and over again.

My Father-in-law put me onto the movie ‘Ip Man’ which is a must-see for any Kung Fu movie nerd.  The first time I saw ‘Ip Man’ it was in Cantonese with no english subtitles, and I still thought it was dope.  Check out Anderson go ham on a Wing chun dummy and then check out the movie ‘Ip Man’!

"I watch all these interviews and no one says my name when they are talking about the greatest fighters anymore and I really don’t like that. It really bothers me."

BJ Penn

Anderson has Steven Seagal, Georges has Jean Claude Van Damme

As my boy, Bloodstain Lane put it, early GSP was a real life Jean Claude Van Damme in his movies Kickboxer and Bloodsport.  GSP would do flashy karate moves like the Axe Kick, and spinning back kicks.  This is the GSP, MMA nerds fell in love with.  A young GSP was a braggadocious and full of swag.  He told Matt Hughes after he beat down BJ Penn, that “He was not impressed by his performance.”

We all know Anderson Silva has Sensei Steven Seagal as a celebrity trainer.  Now we have a video of JCVD training GSP.  Check it out.

GSP doesn’t want any part of Anderson Silva, and I don’t blame him

The boy, Georges St-Pierre, made his triumphant return to the Octagon a couple weeks ago.  He looked great against a very game, Carlos Condit.  Ring rust as many call it did not seem to affect GSP because he was still doing his thing in the Octagon with ease.  I loved seeing him land a nice punch combination, change levels, and drop Condit like a sack of rice.  After his 5 round war with Condit, many speculated the Anderson Silva would be next, but according to Georges, this is not the case.  Check it out.

“He wants to fight me so he can then retire. I would like to fight him too, but after I fight him and win the fight, what happens next? These days, yeah, there’s a lot of money to be made, but I don’t fight for the money. My motivation is to be the best. Like we said, to be the Wayne Gretzky of my sport. So if I fight him, what happens next? It will be over. So yes, I want the fight, but I want to take it when I decide the time is right, not when he wants the fight to happen.” -GSP

Honestly, I don’t blame you Georges.  I wouldn’t take the fight either.  Anderson Silva is taller than you, heavier than you, and possesses a significant reach advantage.  This is a lose/lose fight for GSP.  Plus there is money to made in many other fights at 170, like a fight with Nick Diaz for instance.  The MMA nerds will not be mad at GSP for turning down this fight, and hopefully we get to see the Superfight that actually makes sense…Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones!

Happy Thanksgiving MMA nerds! + Bruce Lee Interview

I’m thankful for Bruce Lee.

I’m also thankful for the handful who still visit this site.  2012 has been a crazy year for me, I left the corporate world, and I promise to post more frequently from now on.  Thank you for all the true MMA nerds who check up here, and eat up today!

Check out this Bruce Lee interview, truly the Godfather of MMA!

GSP is good to go, be afraid.

MMA and the UFC need GSP right now.  It is obvious, 2012 was not a good year for our beloved sport.  Injuries devastated fight cards, known superstars were retiring or on the decline, and overall the fights were not as interesting as before. The usual crew of friends that I would catch fights with were meeting up less often.  This mad me sad.

Everyone loves GSP and hopefully he can revive this sport with an amazing performance come November 17th against the Natural Born Killa, Carlos Condit.

I fully expect a revamped version of GSP.  “We can rebuild him, We have the technology.”

People are talking about [a Silva/Jones superfight] so much that… I don’t have this ambition, this (fight) doesn’t motivate me, especially since they have other athletes in my team, such as Lil’ Nog, Maldonado, Feijao, Caldeirao (Wagner Prado), that are in his weight class. My weight class is 185, my belt is of that weight class. But people are talking so much about this, and we are employees of the UFC.

Of course, I could be saying that I don’t want it, but what if he goes out and accepts the money Dana is proposing for him to fight? It will be hard (not to accept it). It’s not the money that motivates me to fight, I fight because I like it. So, I don’t know. I wouldn’t like (to fight him). But if it’s going to happen, it would have to be at a catchweight. The belt shouldn’t be at play. I already have mine and I don’t want a belt to be left at the side.
